School Announcements
ACT Action
All third year students will take the ACT Wednesday, March 1st  from approximately 8AM-1:30PM.  Students will testing accommodations will test Thursday, March 2nd.  Make up testing will be 3/6-3/10.  Students will need to make sure to eat a good breakfast.  They will be provided a snack during testing and a bag lunch after testing.
Let's ACT on this, Cougars!

Marimba Mama
Congratulations to Umani Gibson who won 1st place in Marimba against other local students at Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Epsilon Omega Chapter, 6th District. A Marimba is a deep-toned xylophone percussion instrument.

She will represent Orangeburg, SC on April 28, 2017 at the Regional Competition in Greensboro, NC.

Edisto High School would like to thank the following businesses for donating breakfast items to our End of Course (EOC) Celebration Breakfast.  Thank you so much for helping ensure that our students had a special breakfast experience that allowed them to perform at their highest level on EOC tests last week.

McDonalds (Hwy 301), Hardees (Hwy 601), Bojangles (Hwy 601), Sonic, Taco Bell (both Orangeburg locations), Burger King (Hwy 301), I Hop, The Kuckery, Piggly Wiggly (Old Edisto Drive).

New Panther!
Edisto High School senior softball player, Caitlin Mills, signs with Claflin University this week to play softball for the Lady Panthers for the 2017-2018 season.  Mills has had a successful career as a Lady Cougar racking up over 32 RBI's, an impressive .475 BA, 10 runners thrown out behind the plate in the previous 2016 season as well as being named a SC CAWS All-State Award Winner and SC HSSR All-State Award Winner.  C. Mills has been a 5 year letterman for the Lady Cougars and is a stellar student off the field as well with an academic grade point average nearing a 4.0.  The Lady Cougars are very proud of Caitlin for all her hard work, dedication, and overall willingness to strive for perfection in all that she does.  Congrats on becoming a Panther!!!

Basketball Try-Outs
Hey, it's ROUNDBALL time again!  Tryouts for Varsity and JV boys Basketball begins Monday, October 31st at 6:00 pm in EHS Gymnasium. 

1. You must have a physical from a doctor in order to participate
2. No physical, no practice or try-out.

Blood Drive 36 pints
Blood drive took in 36 units on Sept 8th.  Thanks to all Cougars who participated.  Our next scheduled blood drive is Thursday, 3 Nov.
TD Club Player of the Week - Quincy Frederick!
During the Thursday meeting of the Orangeburg Touchdown Club, the Sports Plus Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week were honored, with Bethune-Bowman junior tailback Makiah Simmons recognized on offense and Edisto junior defensive end Quincy Fredrick recognized on defense.

All- State Honors
Caitlin Mills, a Junior Catcher for the Lady Cougar softball team, has been selected as a South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports 2016 All-State Softball Player.  This award is being presented to Caitlin Mills for her outstanding 2016 season achievements in Class AA.  Caitlin led the Lady Cougars at the plate with a .475 Batting average, 32 RBI’s, 4 Homeruns, 12 Doubles, and over 8 runners thrown-out with her work behind the plate.  All-state selections are made based on the top 24 softball players in Class AA and she is 1 of 96 in all 4 classifications in South Carolina.  She will be honored by SC CAWS at USC-Aiken  on June 15th.  The Cougar family is very proud of her hard work and dedication this season and looking forward to her senior season.   (Photo courtesy of Donny Knight/T&D 3-25-2016)
 
 
 
Edisto AFJROTC Awards
Edisto High School Air Force Junior ROTC unit SC-20021 held its annual awards ceremony Wednesday, May 18, at the school. More than 600 ribbons and medals were presented, including 20 from local area fraternal and service organizations.  The outstanding cadets overall by year group were Cadets Brandon Smoak, Josiah Thompson-Byrd, Austin Ehrhardt, and Elijah Thompson. Cadets from Bravo and Echo flights took honors as the best flights each semester.

Korean War veteran visits Edisto High
Retired Lt. Col. Frank Staley visited the Edisto High Air Force JROTC recently to share his memories from the Korean War. The 2016 AFJROTC National Distinguished unit has been studying the air war in Korea and invited Staley to talk about his infantry experiences.
